Quadblogging

For the summer, BWJS are signed up to Quadblogging. Quadblogging is a way of linking one school blog to another three around the world. Over the course of the process, each school blog is visited by people from the other three. During our visits, we can find out what is going on in other classes around the world and add our own comments.

In our quad, we are joined by St Monica’s Primary School (Wodonga, Australia), Lingwood Primary School (UK), and Vardon School (New Zealand).

This week, the focus blog is Mr Slater’s Year 5 class at Lingwood Primary School! Please visit them if you can, find out what they’ve been doing, and leave them a comment.

Monday 14th May 2012 – New arrivals in Maple Class

This morning, Maple Class had a special delivery brought to their classroom … a small brown box with the words ‘OPEN URGENTLY’ printed on it. The children were very excited and once the box was opened, there were 5 very tiny caterpillars in a special pot which will eventually turn into Painted Lady butterflies. The caterpillars will take between 7-14 days to become chrysallides and then a further 7-14 days to hatch and turn into butterflies. Maple Class are very excited about their new arrivals!

Monday 14th March 2012 – Roman Chariots

Year 4 have been getting on really well with their Roman Chariots and on Friday of last week, they made the barrier for their chariot and added some Roman decoration to it. Although the barrier looks easy to make, the children had to make sure they were following the instructions very carefully so that they didn’t miss out any crucial steps! Take a look at some of their creations …

Monday 14th May 2012 – BWJS Bloggers

On Friday last week, BWJS Bloggers launched again for the summer term.

Last year, children at BWJS Bloggers posted articles to the main school blog. This year, children are working on their own class blogs which you can find by using the links at the side of the screen. These class blogs will update through the summer term, and the children writing them will become a team of blogging experts who can spread their knowledge through the school next year.

Friday 11th May 2012 – Upper School Maths Workshop

On Thursday afternoon this week, the Year 5 school teaching team ran a maths workshop for parents and children. The workshop was well-attended, with a number of parents and their children taking part. Mrs. Peach and Mr. Senior explained the methods we use for addition and subtraction and the parents and children had an opportunity to practice some of the methods together too. The emphasis was on the children having a full understanding of what they are doing and only moving on to the next step when they are ready.

Thank you to all the parents who attended; the feedback was excellent.

A special thank you to all of the Year 6 pupils who helped out with the creche. Your support was very much appreciated!

Friday 11th May 2012 – Celebration Assembly

Mrs Carter started our Celebration Assembly this morning by welcoming all our visitors into school.

Team Merit certificates were presented to Natasha, Jennifer and Brandon (50 team merits), Alfie and Zahra (100 team merits), Rory and Oakley (150 team merits) and Aaron (200 team merits).

Sam received a Music Certificate of Achievement for playing the keyboard. Miss Pearmain’s Mathematician of the Week was Joe.

Reading at Home certificates were awarded to Bradley (5 hours), Orla, Jayden and James (20 hours), Bea (50 hours), Oliver (100 hours) and Isabella (150 hours).

Jessica, Amy, Jayden, Megan and Lucy then entertained us by playing various arrangements on their violins.

Worldclass Pupil of the week was awarded to Megan. Great Plant Hunt Pupil of the Week was presented to Helen. All the children and staff then beautifully sang ‘Simple Melody’.

This week’s Value of the Week was for having a positive attitude. Our winners were Molly (Gingko), Gemma (Redwood), Zac (Tamarind), Joe (Hawthorn), Jack (Cedar), Josh (Maple, cup winner), Marley (Jackalberry) and Aaron (Eucalyptus).

This week’s team merit results: 1^st – Lions (131), 2^nd – Tigers (98), – 3^rd Pumas (91) and 4^th – Leopards (71).

This week, the focus of our quad turns to us! A big welcome to all visitors from St Monica’s, Lingwood and Vardan. We hope you enjoy reading our blog and finding out about us!

In addition to our school blog, Tamarind Class have their own blog here. Redwood Class will be starting their class blog over the next few days here. I’m sure both classes would love some comments too!

Tuesday 8th May – The Swimming Pool Re-Opens!

After a long wait, the swimming pool at BWJS opened again today, and Year Six took took to the waters for their first session.

The pool will have its public grand re-opening soon. In the meantime, here are some pictures to illustrate the work which has been done.
