Last week, Year 6 visited St Peter’s Church as part of our Easter RE unit, learning more about the Easter story and what Christians believe and to do some reflective thinking of their own. They were told the story and then visited various parts of the church that had been set up to tell a different part of the story.
When we returned to school, we reflected on the morning’s activities. Here is a comment from one child as a result of this experience:
“Although I am not a Christian, the activities made me reflect on my life and gave me an opportunity to think about my past and to think about others.”
Year six have been looking at the Christian Story and learning about the Christian view of salvation.
We videoed ourselves explaining salvation- it was very difficult!
We were lucky enough to have a Christian visit our classrooms, here are just a few of the questions we asked her:
- What is it like being a Christian?
- Why do you think Jesus died on the cross?
- Is it difficult to be a Christian?
- Do you think that every sin is forgivable?
- Do you have a prayer routine?
- Have you always been a Christian?
If you could interview a Christian, what would you ask?
The school term came to an end today with our annual carol service. As usual, the event was held at St Peter’s Church and hosted by the Rev James Hunt who welcomed us warmly and finished with a final blessing. Miss Pearmain had co-ordinated the event and provided narration which was read by Year Six. Years Three, Four and Five contributed their thoughts about the angels, the shepherds and the wise men – a wonderful way to focus on the Christmas story after all the celebrations of the last two weeks.
