On Tuesday afternoon, the children in Year 4 performed to parents, Year 5 and Year 2, all they had learnt on the ukulele this term. They introduced each song themselves, which included an explanation of how they had learnt it and a brief demonstration of the chords and tune used on the ukulele to accompany the song. Although Mrs Wainwright was in front of the children conducting, they were all able to read the music off the screen to help them play the correct tune. It was a lovely concert and it was amazing to see what the children had learnt in 1 term. Their next musical challenge is the keyboard …
This term, Year Five have been looking at African cyclic patterns in our music lesson. Here are some of the improvised compositions we created yesterday (and an example of some African dance!)
Yesterday afternoon, Year 4 performed to parents and Year 3 a range of songs they have been learning with Mrs Wainwright during their music lessons.
The children performed songs from different countries and learnt about the origins of the songs as well as different musical terms to help them sing the songs successfully.
The children performed really well and it was a pleasure to watch. Please view the films below to see what they have learnt!
Earlier this week, we were lucky enough to be joined by Matthew and Charlie-Jade from AMJ Music, a local organisation who run music tuition. They joined us during an assembly to demonstrate some singing and drumming. Thanks to them for coming in – find out more by visiting their website here.
The final music concert of the year took place this afternoon in front of a packed house! Over the course of the summer term the pupils in Year 4 have been learning to play the UKULELE (or small guitar as I like to call it). They sung a variety of songs whilst playing the instrument – and even taught the audience a range of notes and chords. Mrs Wainwright, from Hampshire Music Service, has taught the Year 4 pupils music ALL year as part of the Listen2Me programme. At the end of each term the pupils perform a concert for their parents.
Well done to all of the Year 4 pupils and GOOD LUCK to those pupils who are carrying on learning to play the instrument next year.
9 pupils from Bishop’s Waltham Junior School attended an Instrumental Workshop at Swanmore College on Thursday 14th July. An event, organised by Hampshire Music Service, provided pupils from across the pyramid, an opportunity to perform in a string ensemble. After rehearsing all afternoon, the pupils put on a performance to parents (which was great!).
Well done to Katie, Amy, Hollie, Daisy, Sophie, Isobel, Eleanor, Lauren and Charlotte.
Yesterday, Year Four finished their second term of ‘Listen To Me’ by performing a concert of pieces for the keyboard to their Year Three classmates, and their parents.
Next term, Year Four will be learning to play the ukelele!
This half term, Year Five have been learning about cyclic patterns in music. As part of this work, we learned the song ‘Degu Degu’. ‘Degu Degu’ is a song from Mali, and sung in Bambara, the widest spoken indigenous language in the country. It is about a Dad who’s trousers are too big – he needs a belt to hold them up!
We arranged our own performances combining the vocals, a steady beat, and a variety of cyclic patterns on untuned percussion. Tamarind Class recorded their performances.
