On Saturday 23rd June, the school’s swimming pool is being officially opened. See below for more details, and keep an eye on this blog for more information as it becomes available.
Friday 2nd March 2012 – Quiz Night:
On Friday 24th February the school hosted its 2nd quiz night of the year. An event, organised by FOBS (Friends of Bishop’s Waltham School), was enjoyed by over 80 parents (11 teams). Thank you very much to everyone who attended – I know a great time was had by all. A special thank you must also go to Mrs Horwood (Chair of FOBS – and her committee members) for organising the quiz night and to Mr Jake Wood for being the M.C.
Oh by the way…..The school staff team finished a respectable 5th!
Friday 2nd March 2012 – Thank you to FOBS (Friends of Bishop’s Waltham School)
The FOBS committee has kindly agreed to contribute a whopping £5000 towards an exciting ICT development at BWJS. The school has purchased 32 SAMSUNG NETBOOKS – allowing the children to use ICT within the classrooms to support many areas of the curriculum. Also, this weekend, the school will have WIFI installed so the netbooks can be used across the school without the need for trails of wires.
The contribution of £5000 would not have been possible without the endless effort that FOBS put into organizing numerous events for the school. May I also take this opportunity to thank the parents/pupils/community members for supporting these events, as without this, NO money would be raised. All money generated by FOBS is always spent on improving provision for the children at BWJS.
FOBS have also agreed to contribute £500 towards the purchase of another KIT CAR – which will be built by the pupils (alongside Mrs Peach / Mrs Hope) and raced at the Goodwood Festival in July.
Finally, each class has been provided with a budget so new/updated class reading books can be purchased, money has been agreed to buy new benches for the school grounds and some additional money will be used to buy resources for a new Chess Club.
Most of the ideas/suggestions for how the money should be spent come directly from the SCHOOL COUNCIL – Representatives from each class meet with Mrs. Rye every fortnight to discuss ways in which the school can be improved.
Friday 9th December 2011 – Christmas Fayre
A quick reminder – the FOBS Christmas Fayre takes place tonight from 3:30 til 6:00. Come along to hear the choir, browse the stalls, buy some cakes, or see Father Christmas. Preparations are well underway!
Saturday 29th October 2011 – Fireworks in Bishop’s Waltham
For the third year in a row, the school held a Fireworks Display at Hoe Road Recreation Ground. The event was organised by FOBS and was supported by a range of community groups, including Dynamos Football Club, Scouts and Chipperfields. We were very fortunate with the weather (rain started to fall after the last set of parents began to leave) and the turn out was exceptional. The event, which was enjoyed by all, was very successful, raising around £3500 for the pupils of Bishop’s Waltham Junior School.
Many thanks to all who came to support this event and a very special thank you to Helen Horwood and the rest of the FOBS committee for organising such a spectacle. As I sit here typing this, the School Council are meeting to discuss how the money raised can be spent. Watch this space.

Monday 13th December 2010 – Christmas Disco
As the term draws to a close, children at BWJS have a number of opportunities to celebrate. This evening, the Christmas Disco took place. Organised by FOBs, this was a chance for the children to dress in their finest clothes and show their greatest moves on the dance floor. Even some members of staff were unable to contain their enthusiasm, as the photos show!
Thank you to the members of FOBs who have worked so hard to put on this event just days after the Christmas Fayre.
Friday 10th December 2010 – Christmas Fayre
It was the evening of our annual Christmas Fayre today. As usual, members of FOBs had been in school throughout the week leading up to this evening, making preparations for a great event
Hot drinks and cakes were on sale in the hall, a place for visitors to sit and talk, and listen to a performance from the school choir as well as buying raffle tickets. Outside, burgers, hot dogs and potatoes were avaliable from the barbeque. Throughout the classrooms, visitors could purchase Christmas presents from a variety of stalls, and take part in a range of games and activities.
A big thank you to everyone in FOBs who worked so hard to organise this event, and to all those who came to take part.
