Friday 18th November 2011 – Eco Warriors 2012 Calendar

Filed under: Art,Clubs & Sports,Eco Warriors,Geography @ 7:20 pm

For those of you who perhaps haven’t yet picked up your Parent Mail or raided your son or daughter’s bag for letters (and, of course for our blog followers who don’t have children at our school) I would like to tell you all about a fantastic calendar that has been produced by the members of our Eco Warriors Club.

The purpose of this calendar is to spread the word about how we can care for our environment.  It is called ‘Love Your Planet’ and each month on the calendar will carry an important message advising/reminding us how we can all help to look after our planet.  Beautiful pen and ink artwork researched, designed and ‘painted’ by the club members accompanies each message.  Below are a couple of examples – the message for July is ‘Love Great Britain:  Don’t Fly Away’ and the message for October is ‘Buy Loose:  Avoid Packaging’:

Please support these enthusiastic youngsters in their mission to raise environmental awareness:  buy at least one calendar.  They will be professionally printed on A4 size silk paper, spiral bound with a wall ‘hook’, very reasonably priced at just £5 and will make fantastic Christmas presents!

Here is an example from the company’s website:

Any profits will go towards the action group’s next environmental project.

If you would like to purchase a calendar or two, please place your order ASAP by filling in the form from the letter sent out on Tuesday, or otherwise collect an order slip from the school office.

Thank you for your support.

Tuesday 18th October 2011 – Eco-Warriors Calendar – A Great Christmas Present!

Filed under: Eco Warriors @ 11:13 am

The first major project undertaken by Mrs Milne’s BWJS Eco Warriors has been to create a ‘Love your Planet’ calendar.  Members of this club are working very hard to produce beautiful artwork for this calendar which will be on sale to parents and community members in the lead-up to Christmas.  Each month on the calendar will carry an important message advising/reminding us how we can all help to look after our planet.

Please support these enthusiastic youngsters in their mission to raise environmental awareness:  plan to buy at least one calendar.  They will be professionally printed, very reasonably priced (hopefully £5 for an A4 hanging wall calendar) and will make fantastic Christmas presents!  Any profits will go towards the action group’s next environmental project.

If you think you will be in a position to support this campaign by purchasing a calendar or two, please fill in the form located in the school office.  This will help us to predict sales and place a print order of an appropriate size.

Watch this space for further details.

Friday 9th September 2011 – New Club: Eco Warriors!

Filed under: Clubs & Sports,Eco Warriors @ 4:00 pm
This year, a brand new club with a focus on the environment and green issues is being launched.  It is open to all year groups but with a maximum intake of 30 members.  It will run throughout the year on a Monday after school from 3:15 until 4:15 (starting on Monday 26th September).  If your child loves animals or cares about the environment, please encourage them to join for the Autumn Term to try it out.

The activities that the Eco Warriors do will very much depend on the children’s interests, but may include:

- Spreading messages against litter, wasting energy, little-known endangered species etc.
- Litter picking in the locality;
- Writing letters to the local council with ideas for improving bin provision or to local businesses about carrier bag use;
- Designing fabric/canvas bags to sell;
- Painting a mural for the school building to raise awareness about the environment.

We may also look into ways in which we can get the school accredited for the good work we already do with recycling and environmental education.
