Friday 18th May 2012 – Worldclass Fayre

Worldclass Annual Fayre will be taking place for three days next week and we will have fifteen tables for you to choose from.  The tables will have a range of items to buy, e.g. cakes, toys, DVDs, books, guess the name of teddy and guess how many sweets in the jar.

Monday 21st May
Tuesday 22nd May
Wednesday 23rd May.

We will be having six sessions and these will be 10:40 – 11:00 (break time) and 3:00 pm – 4:00 p.m. on all three days.  If the weather is fine we will be holding the fayre under the parents’ shelter but if it is raining it will take place in the school hall.

Fifty Worldclass children have been busy preparing for this event and I am so proud of their enthusiasm, commitment and dedication in organising their own stalls.  These children are a huge credit to our school.

Please come along and support us in raising money so we can continue to sponsor Isatou, Pahali, Assan and Amie and enable them to continue having an education.

We would welcome any donations of cakes, toys and books. These can be brought into Reception.  Thank you.

Tuesday 8th May 2012 – Bird Box Update

Filed under: Great Plant Hunt,Whole School @ 8:52 am

All children and staff in our school are very excited by developments in the bird box over the last week.  The blue tit had been busy for over a week building her nest.  Then last Friday she laid her first egg and every day since then she has been laying an egg.  We now have an amazing seven eggs in the nest which she is now sitting on most of the time.  Mr Blue tit is constantly bringing her grubs and many of the children have watched in amazement as he feeds them to her.  We are so fortunate to have the camera in the box for all the children to witness such a close look at nature.

We now eagerly await the arrival of the chicks and, of course, we will keep you updated with their progress.

This year it will be held Monday 21st, Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd May.

At the Fayre, Worldclass children will be selling cakes, biscuits, bath bombs, soaps, toys and lots of other things. We will also have ‘Guess the Name of the Teddy’, ‘How Many Sweets in the Jar’ and many other competitions.

The fayre will take place every break time (10.40 – 11am) and after school (3pm – 4pm) near the parents shelter.

Please put the dates on your calendar and come along to help us raise enough money to sponsor these children.

Thursday 22nd March 2012 – Swanmore and District Football Rally

Yesterday, 18 year 6 children took part in the annual Swanmore and District Football Rally held at Wickham Primary School.  This is a tournament we usually do well in so we arrived in high hopes of winning something shiny to bring back to school…

The children were split into two teams and played in two separate leagues.  Team 2 played 3 matches, winning their first game against Droxford and but unfortunately losing against Swanmore and St. John’s.  However, it was brilliant to see their determination and team work throughout all their games – something which the spectators commented on.

Team 1 played 4 matches and showed just as much determination and team work.  They won 3 matches against Swanmore, St. John’s and Droxford and drew their match 0-0 against Wickham.  Once the final match had been played and I added together the scores, we had 11 points in total.  Was it enough to win the shield?

After a quick refreshment, we gathered in the presentation area, eagerly awaiting the results.  Team 2 came 3rd in their league – a brilliant achievement.  Team 1 came 1st, 3 points ahead of 2nd place! As you can imagine, both teams and adults were very happy as the children went up to collect the shield.

Well done to all of the children who took part yesterday afternoon – you were a real credit to yourself and the school:

Team 1 – Jamie, Luke, Jake, Matthew, Sam, Natasha, Nathan, Joseph, Jamie

Team 2 – Issy, Tommy, Penny, Matthew, Matthew, Jamie, David, Jake, Tim

Thank you to the parents and grandparents that also came along to give their support yesterday afternoon.

Wednesday 14th March – Swanmore and District Netball Rally

Filed under: Clubs & Sports @ 10:03 pm

This afternoon, our school netball team took part in the annual Netball Rally which was held at Swanmore Primary School.  It is a great afternoon of sport with games against the other schools in the area and certificates and medals awarded at the end of the competition.

The team had been selected by Mrs Peach and I from our Wednesday evening club and we were very much looking forward to the afternoon and playing the matches.  The team looked very professional in their white polo shirts, skorts (skirts and shorts) and red fleeces.

We played against Curdridge in our first match and we played very well – good defending and attacking.  Unfortunately we lost 3-1.  This was the same story in our match against Swanmore.  However, we played exceptionally well against Wickham and drew 3-3, with great comments from our opponents and supporters on how well our team had played.  Overall, we came 5th out of 6 teams and the team should feel proud of themselves for this.

It was a fantastic afternoon of netball – as usual, the team were a real credit to the school and I enjoyed taking them and watching them play.  Well done to Robert, Abby, Libby, Katy, Ciara, Kirsten and Jenny.  Thank you to the parents and grandparents who came to watch and a special thanks to our governor Sandi Anning who gave up her afternoon to support the team.

Thursday 8th March 2012 – Green Goblin Car Club 2012

Filed under: Car Club @ 3:49 pm

Having recently taken delivery of the new Green Goblin car kit, Mrs Hope and Mrs Peach were finally able to make a start on this year’s car building project with a group of year 5 & 6 children.

On Saturday 3rd March 2012 they were joined by several knowledgeable and enthusiastic adults and 15 children for a workshop to unpack the boxes and make sense of the many component parts. The children were quickly able to put the frame together under the guidance of the adults present and were then split into teams to tackle building the front and rear axles, fit the motor and steering column.

Progress on the build was so rapid that it was decided to cancel the workshop planned for the following Saturday and complete the rest of the construction process during the Monday after school sessions.

The first Monday club took place this week, during which wheels were fitted and the children were able to familiarise themselves further with the order of construction.

All the children so far have shown great enthusiasm for the project and we are all really looking forward to racing the new car alongside the older one at Goodwood towards the end of the summer term.

Thanks must go to FOBS and the Bishop’s Waltham Rotary Club for making donations towards the cost of purchasing the new kit and especially to the knowledgeable adults who have made it all possible. Mrs Hope and Mrs Peach are extremely grateful for your support!

Thursday 8th March 2012 – Our School Bird Box

Filed under: Great Plant Hunt @ 3:44 pm

At BWJS, we are extremely lucky to have such a fantastic group of people running FOBS, who regularly purchase things for our school.

The Great Plant Hunt made a suggestion of purchasing a bird box with camera to the Young Governors. They passed on this suggestion to FOBS who quickly agreed to buy one and, within a couple of weeks, the bird box and camera had arrived in school.

Mr Newton kindly took on the task of putting it all together, i.e. getting the camera securely attached inside the box, finding enough extension cable, putting the box up, producing a TV and making the connection from bird box to TV.  The TV is situated in the library next to the window.

We now have a fully working camera in our bird box and we patiently await the arrival of our first birds ready for nesting.

Thank you to all of FOBS for kindly purchasing the box and camera and grateful thanks to our very special Mr Newton for all your hard work. It is very much appreciated and every time the children visit the library they can check any progress.
