Friday 18th November 2021 – News From Year Six

After a rather disrupted end to the first half of the Autumn Term, Year 6 have been enjoying a more normal start to the second half. In English, we’ve been thinking about newspaper reports using The Lighthouse as a stimulus, and then focusing on events in Katherine Rundell’s The Explorer, our new guided reading text. In maths, we’ve started looking at fractions and percentages, a topic which will feature quite heavily in our curriculum during the rest of the year.

This week has been anti-bullying week, and after Mrs Mars’ assembly on Monday, the children have been exploring this theme further. They were able to wear odd socks on Monday to celebrate differences; today, we’ve been out of school uniform because of Children in Need.

In our music sessions with Mrs Zillwood, the children have been looking at the music of The Beatles. This week, they’ve been developing their glockenspiel skills to the tune of Eleanor Rigby.

There is a lot of exciting news on the way from Year 6. In the next couple of weeks, we’ll be telling you about Team Captains, Leavers’ Hoodies, the Rainforst Cafe and our Liddington residential. Keep on eye on Parentmail (and here on the blog) for more…
