Wednesday 21st July 2021 – Year 5 – Circus skills, History and Art

Circus skills, there’s something I never thought I’d write about in a school blog! Last week, Year 5 took part in a morning of activities that could get us all a job in the circus. Skills learnt included tight rope walking, plate spinning, juggling, diabolo spinners and stilt walking! All the activities honed hand eye coordination, teamwork and resilience. The children had a wonderful time and were grateful for the chance to enjoy such a different experience.

After our overview of the Ancient Civilisations earlier in the term, this week we explored Ancient Egypt in greater depth. Initially, we investigated the major events of this period and discussed the impact of them on the people of the time. We looked at the everyday lives of people, the afterlife and compared them to our own.

For our final Art day, we experimented with watercolours and used lots of different techniques to create some fantastic effects.  The children really enjoyed mixing up new colours and putting them to good use on their paintings of teasels and seashore pebbles.

Mrs Arnold, Mr McKenna and the Year 5 team would like to thank you for all your support over the last year and we hope you have a lovely summer.
