Friday 12th February 2021 – Iron Man Sculptures in Year 3
Yesterday afternoon, Year 3 had a great deal of fun in class and at home constructing their Iron Man models out of junk items. They were inspired by the assemblage sculptures created by contemporary American artist Leo Sewell.
We were really impressed with the children’s creative approach to this task, and by their resourcefulness in finding ways to join and fix parts of their model together. Many of the Iron Men even had moving parts!
Over half term, the children have been challenged to add further raised 3D elements to the surfaces of their Iron Men (in the style of Kurt Schwitters) and to paint or cover their models in foil if possible. Ideas planned by the children include using old cutlery, nuts and bolts, bottle tops and cut out cardboard shapes of metal object. We cannot wait to see the finished sculptures.
