World Book Day Celebrations – Thursday 5th March

Filed under: Whole School @ 4:55 pm

What a fantastic day we have had celebrating World Book Day!

The day started with Booky Breakfast in the hall – a fantastic turn out of parents and children who shared books and breakfast together before school had even started.

During the day, pupils have been participating in a range of book-themed activities including working as a class to replicate the cover of a favourite book for their classroom door. We had a wide range of books chosen including The Magic Faraway Tree, Chameleon Chaos (by Ali Sparkes), James and the Giant Peach and Night Speakers (also Ali Sparkes). The children used a range of artistic techniques to complete their section of the cover and the overall effect is very effective.

All the children also took part in the Bookbusters quiz in mixed year group teams. Based on the classic 90s quiz show, children worked in teams to get across the board of hexagons by answering questions about books. They displayed some very impressive knowledge! Some classes also made book marks, wrote 50 word stories and played games of consequences, which certainly entertained us in assembly at the end of the day!

The children were also invited to participate in the Booky Potato competition and the standard of entries was incredibly high, making judging near-impossible! Congratulations to everyone who participated and also to the winners of the competition: Reece and Paige (3G), Jasper and Sophie (3M), Ellie and Lyra (4R), William and Isla (4J), Stanley and Bebe (5S), Jazmine and Jacob (5T), Loki and Isla (6C) and Madison and Archie (6B). Please do spend some time looking through the photos in the gallery!
