Friday 28th June 2019 – Year 4 – Roman artefacts morning and visit to the ruins and museum

Today started with a chance for Year 3 and 4 to handle some artefacts from close to 2000 years old. The different Roman pieces were all from the local area and included some that have yet to be catalogued. Children enjoyed finding out about the local history and the chance to hold it. Even I was excited about having history in my hands!

This afternoon, we took the short trip to the Palace ruins to sketch and visit the museum. The stunning settings inspired the children to produce some fantastic artwork. Within the museum being within the grounds, allowed us to show the children all their great work that’s on display there. If you haven’t already, you should visit it!

Thank you to Stanley Turner’s and Penny – the museum conservator for giving up their time to enrich the children’s history learning. Also thank you to Mrs Arnold, Mrs Usher, Mrs Kara and Mrs Harris for ensuring the children were safe throughout the trip.
