Wednesday 24th April 2019- Year 3 Fishbourne Roman Palace Trip

Wow!  What a day and a great start to the new term and our Roman topic!

Year 3 spent the day at Fishbourne Roman Palace where they participated in two workshops and then took a tour of the site.

What is archaeology? (workshop)

This workshop showed the children how real archaeologists interpret physical evidence to find out about the past. The children were able to handle artefacts and look for clues about the past.

Roman Activity Workshop

In this workshop the children became Romans, complete with tunica (Roman costume) and then carried out various Roman activities including writing on wax tablets, playing Roman games, spinning wool, building  arches, using a stylus and ink and creating mosaics.

At the end of the day we had an opportunity to look at the beautiful mosaics  and hypocaust of the North wing of the palace.

As always your children were a credit to you and the school. Several people (including our driver) mentioned how well behaved and enthusiastic they all were.

We now look forward to learning more about the Romans over the next term.
