Thursday 7th February 2019 – Swimming Match Vs Twyford School:

Thirty-six apprehensive swimmers met together after school on Monday evening ready to make their way to Twyford School for our annual swimming match. For all of our year 3 children and some year 4, it was their first time as a member of our school swim squad team and it was nerve-jangling and very exciting at the same time!

So many of our parents kindly helped with transport and then stayed to cheer our team from the spectator gallery, alongside the Twyford parents, making it a wonderful atmosphere for our team to experience.

The nerves were soon left behind as our team realised that they were as good as the opposition and their confidence soared. At the end of the individual races, it was felt that we were marginally ahead on points but could we keep ahead during the relay races that followed, which scored double points? It was touch and go!

With great team work, concentration and determination our team kept up the pressure in the relays and there were some incredibly close finishes. The spectators roared both teams on and the tension grew after the last race as it was still not absolutely clear who had gained the most points.

It was close…but much to our delight the final score was 161 points to Twyford School and 176 points to BWJS – a good win!

Many thanks to all our parents who helped on poolside and for all the transport and encouragement from the gallery and a huge well done to all our team who represented school so well. They were a real credit to the school.

Mrs Cooper
