After nearly 20 years employment at Bishop’s Waltham Junior School, Mr Newton will be leaving us at the end of the autumn term to take up a new job within Hampshire County Council.  Whilst it will be sad to see him leave, it does present an exciting opportunity for an individual to take over as Caretaker at this wonderful school.  The job advert has gone live on the Council website (link below).  If you know of anyone that might be interested in applying then please direct them to this site.

Job/Person Summary
This role is a great opportunity for a hard working individual to join the school team. We are a growing school, with an on-site swimming pool and large grounds.

We are looking for a positive, dedicated, reliable, well-motivated and practical person to assist with security, safety, cleanliness and general maintenance of the school site. The role will also involve being the ‘Pool Plant Operator’ for the swimming pool (training provided)

Duties will be carried out across a split shift from 6.30am – 10.00am and 3.00 –6.30pm Monday to Friday.  The contract is for 52 weeks of the year so we will require work to be completed during the school holidays.  We would happily consider a job-share for the right applicants.

* Friendly, enthusiastic, reliable, flexible and dedicated?
* Skilled in building maintenance, gardening and decorating activities?
* An individual that takes pride in their work?
* A good time manager – able to work under guidance and able to use your own initiative, prioritising workload?
* Able to manage members of the site cleaning team?
* Confident with communicating with all members of a school community, both orally and in written form?
* Able to use IT to support your role? (e.g. emails, Microsoft word)
*Physically able to operate heavy duty cleaning equipment and lift heavy objects?
*Willing to undertake training?

Main duties will include:

* Being responsible for site security including the daily opening of the school
* Acting as a key holder for the school and attending emergency call outs if/when necessary
* Appointed Pool Plant Operator (Full training provided) – Swimming Pool Maintenance 
* Regular checking and record keeping of the fire alarm system, including various other fire safety checks and documents
* Regular checking and record keeping to meet legislative Health & Safety requirements e.g. COSHH, legionella etc
* Arrange and supervise contractors on site during working hours
* Work in a flexible manner for the needs of the children and the school
* Liaise and manage a programme of general DIY repairs including planned and preventative maintenance and redecoration
* Take pride in maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness throughout the school site including managing and supporting the
cleaning team, and grounds maintenance works, and being involved in cleaning activities
* Monitoring stocks and ordering supplies
* Liaising with all staff, including our Finance Officer, Headteacher and Governors

Previous caretaking experience is desirable but is not essential, as full training and support will be provided to the right candidate.
