Thursday 17th May 2018 – Well done to Year 6 Pupils

Dear Y6 Pupils & Parents,

I am writing to congratulate all of the Y6 pupils for the stunning effort and learning attitude they have put into their SATs tests over the course of this week, but more importantly for all their amazing hard work and effort over the course of this year.

The pupils faced each test with a positive attitude and demonstrated incredible resilience throughout the week. I have to admire the way in which the pupils and staff worked together, supporting each other and encouraging one another throughout.

No matter what scaled score they end up with, or whether they reach the ‘expected’ end of year standard or not, their teachers, and I, are extremely proud of them and know that they all tried their best and that is all that anyone can ask!

Reading, SPAG and Maths are obviously all very important subjects and will serve the pupils well in life, but they are definitely not the ‘be-all and end all’. Over the course of this year, I have seen our Year 6s achieve many personal goals and successes. They have all grown in confidence, ability and personality and are maturing into wonderful young people who we know will continue to shine throughout secondary school. We are only sorry there aren’t tests to score your child’s humour, personalities, kindness, or their positive attitude and resilience.

What the SATs also don’t show is how each child has contributed to the school and local community with the responsibilities they have taken and committed to. The SATs also fail to show the amazing athleticism on the sporting field whether as part of the football team, netball team, rugby team, swimming squad etc. Neither do they celebrate the wonderful instruments they play, the productions they have performed in, the pieces of art they may have produced or the poetry they have written, the amazing persuasive letters or the music they have composed and performed.

We are constantly amazed by the incredible people you are becoming. Your talents and skills impress us daily.

Well done to all of Year 6. You should be incredibly proud of yourselves!

Mr D Campbell
Head Teacher
