Tuesday 6th March 2018 – Swimming Gala Vs St Swithun’s School

A team of 36 children from Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 travelled to St Swithun’s School in Winchester on Monday 5th March for the annual swimming match that we have against them. Their 6 lane 25m pool meant that we could have three children in each individual event and two relay teams from each year group taking part. For most of our Y3s this was the first time that they had been part of the BWJS swimming team and it was quite an overwhelming experience for them but what a great way to start it was!

After the individual races in the 25m and 50m backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and front crawl , it was clear that because we had such a broad range of excellent swimmers putting in superb performances, we were in the lead. However, the relays to follow collected double points and so it all depended on the teamwork and take-overs to make sure there were no disqualifications. All the squad training came into effect and the relay teams performed magnificently to increase their lead and remain dominant.

In the end BWJS scored 279 points to St Swithun’s 227.

A huge ‘Well Done’ to everyone who took part and especially to those who overcame their nervousness at the start and went from strength to strength.

Thanks so much to everyone who helped on poolside and to all those parents who provided transport and supported us so well from the viewing gallery. Without your help, these events could not happen.
