Friday 23rd February 2018 – Bones and muscles in Year 3

To start their new Science unit ‘Bones and Muscles’, Year 3 had a visit from a surgeon and nurse today to give them first hand experiences about bones and muscles. Mr Gandhe brought ‘Sue the skeleton’ into school to help the children learnt about the functions of a skeleton and learn some of the names of the bones. They also got to try on some VR goggles to see inside a real theatre and then perform a hip operation using some equipment surgeons use in theatre for operations. Finally, Miss Mrozinski got her arm cast in plaster and the children got to see how it is bandaged to help protect and heal the bone.

In the afternoon, the children used their knowledge from the morning to make their own life-sized skeleton!
