Thursday 12th October 2017 – Year Six at the Living Rainforest

As part of our geography topic, Year 6 visited the Living Rainforest near Newbury today to experience the sights, sounds and smells of a real rainforest environment.

The Living Rainforest contains a range of plants and animals that would be found in real tropical rainforests.  We enjoyed looking at the exotic plants, and searching for the armadillos, the free-ranging birds and the water dragons.  We also managed to catch a glimpse of the elusive sloth nestled high up near the glass ceiling.

After a chance to wander the rainforest environment in our own groups, we then came together after lunch for a formal tour led by centre staff.  They showed us some of the hidden details we missed during our own exploration and explained some of the adaptations that plants and animals have made to cope with the rainforest environment.

We had a great day, and the children were a credit to the school – ‘one of the best groups they’d ever had’, according to our guides.
