Friday 4th March 2016 – World Book Day (3/3/16)

Filed under: Whole School @ 4:30 pm

On Thursday 3rd March, pupils and staff once again participated in World Book Day by dressing up as their favourite book character. The costumes were, as always, very impressive. During the day pupils participated in a wide range of ‘book’ related activities. Along with activities organised within their classrooms, pupils also had the opportunity to look at the fantastic array of ‘extreme reading photos’ that had been displayed in the hall, enter the ‘staff shelfie’ competition and sample the kitchens ‘Har ry Potter’ biscuits.

Mrs. Daniels also spent a large part of her day walking around the school with a bell. Pupils and staff had to down tools and read for 10 minutes every time the bell was rung. To round off the day, we discovered that the school was successful in helping to break a Guinness World Record
Please see below.

Guinness World Record Attempt:
On Monday 22nd February, the whole school took part in an official Guinness World Record attempt. The event was organised as part of World Book Day and involved schools, colleges, libraries and other organisations all taking part in a book quiz at the same time. The official attempt was ‘The most people participating in simultaneous book quizzes’.
All the children gathered in the hall for a 2pm start – they were divided up into teams of 8 or 9 children from a range of year groups. The quiz was all about books, authors and characters and was made up of 45 questions. We had a fantastic time! We must thank all the extra adult helpers who came along and supported and took on official roles of stewards and witnesses for the event.

The pupils will soon be receiving a free £1 book token which we hope they will have fun purchasing a new book with. P&G Wells Book Fair will also be visiting our school on Friday March 11th so pupils will have a further opportunity to purchase some books if they so wish.
