Friday 26th June 2015 – Special Whole School Assembly:

Filed under: Whole School @ 2:56 pm

On Monday 22nd June, pupils at BWJS got to witness a medieval sword fight during a special whole school assembly. Heidi Isa (BW Market Towns Development Officer) and her team of battlefield re-enactors were in school to promote the forthcoming celebration of the ‘Battle of Agincourt.’ For those non-historians amongst you – King Henry V came to stay in Bishop’s Waltham on his way to the battle almost 600 years ago.

The re-enactors showed the pupils a range of different battle shields and explained a little bit about the significance of the patterns, designs and heraldries. All pupils have been given the opportunity to participate in a Shield Design Competition, incorporating their own unique design. All of the shields will be on display at the ‘Road to Agincourt’ event taking place at the Palace Grounds on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th July. Judging will take place on the Sunday morning and winners will be announced at midday.

All completed Shield Design Competition entries to be submitted (box outside the school office) by Thursday 9th July.
