Friday 21st November 2014: Swimming Gala Success

What a credit to the school these pupils are! Each and every member of the school team put 100% effort (an more!) into their performances in the swimming match against St Swithun’s School, Winchester on Monday evening last week.

For some of the pupils, it was their first time as a team member and I know that they were extremely nervous before their races. However, they bravely got over it and gained a huge amount of confidence during the match. Others, who have been in a team before against St Swithuns, knew what to expect and gave loads of encouragement to everyone.

The St Swithun’s team are always very strong opposition, with most of their team members being county and regional swimmers – they have not lost to any school for many years….but they have now!

With incredibly close individual 25m and 50m races and then the medley and freestyle relays, the match was even up until the last race…..and then the Y6 freestyle team stepped up to the diving blocks. WOW – they were determined that no-one was going to beat them and they finished 5 metres ahead of St Swithuns to win the match by 3 points. FANTASTIC.

Thanks must go to Mrs Cresswell, Mrs Smith and Mrs Cameron for assisting on poolside and to all the parents who gave great support from the balcony.

Report by Mrs Cooper.
