Winchester Schools Swimming Gala – Friday 6th June 2014

Filed under: Whole School @ 10:44 am
30 schools took part in the Winchester Schools Gala at River Park Pool on Friday, 6th June. All our teams got though their heats and into the finals for the 6 fastest teams. The girls mixed stroke team then went on to beat their closest rivals, St Swithun’s in a fabulous race to come first and then the freestyle team just came 2nd to St Swithun’s in an incredibly close finish with less than half a second between them. Girls’ mixed stroke team; backstroke Leah C, breaststroke Amy O, butterfly Millie S, front crawl Megan P. Freestyle team; Leah C, Ellie N, Amy O and Millie S.
The boys also had two great finals, coming in 2nd place just behind The Pilgrims School in the mixed stroke relay and the freestyle relay. Mixed Stroke team backstroke Alex D, breaststroke Freddie S, butterfly Ben W, front crawl Benjamin C. Freestyle team Daniel M, Freddie S, Ben W and Benjamin C.
Four year 4 children, Oliver H, Rose C, Jodie P and Chloe G also swam in the individual 25m freestyle race against 42 other year 4 competitors and Oliver and Chloe both got into the finals, coming in 6th place.
Great results; all the children must be congratulated for their dedication and hard work. They never miss a swim squad session and put 120% into their training and competition racing, all helping to carry on the superb reputation that the teams from BWJ have in Hampshire competitive swimming.
Thanks also to Mrs Cooper and all the other dedicated adults who spend their time training both swim squads and organising such great opportunities for them to compete.
