Sunday 10th November 2013 – Y5 Football Success:

On Wednesday 6th November, the Y5 school football team competed in a 2nd Round Hampshire Cup match against Freemantle Academy (Southampton.)

We had the home advantage and after winning the toss we also had the advantage of choosing to play DOWN-HILL in the first half.

For 19 minutes of the first half, BWJS dominated possession, contested and won all of their tackles and put incredible pressure on the opposition’s goalkeeper – so much so we coasted into a 3-0 lead. Then, with seconds to go in the first half, Freemantle scored from a corner.

The second half was extremely tough; playing up hill, BWJS found it difficult to maintain the same level of intensity they demonstrated in the first half. In the closing moments of the game, Freemantle scored two quick goals to level the match. We were heading for the dreaded EXTRA TIME!

The team re-grouped, determined not to lose the game. With the light fading and the boys tiring, the whole team showed great determination and resilience. With every player giving 100%, BWJS scored and then defended the remainder of the game with all of the spectators unable to watch from the sidelines. As the game drew to a close, Kian, the schools goalkeeper, pulled off a world-class one handed dived save to prevent the opposition from scoring.

It was an amazing game of football with both sides showing true sportsmanship. BWJS now progress into the 3rd round and we are waiting to see who we will be pitted against!

Confidence is HIGH!

Well done to: Kian L-V, Daniel M, Freddie S, Richard H, Sam C, Tom C, Kai M, Rory M, Joseph D, Ben H.

  1. Well done! Another great win! I expect it was very tense, but as usual determination and resilience won through! I’m hoping the winning streak continues!
