Thursday 20th June – District Sports Field Events

Filed under: Whole School @ 9:51 pm

Today, 24 children from Years 5 and 6 took part in the annual Field Events competition at St. John’s Primary School. The children had been working hard in their PE lessons to be selected for the throwing and jumping events.

Each child could take part in 2 events. There were 2 throwing events – seeing how far they could throw a rounders ball and a vortex (a small dart shaped piece of apparatus) and two jumping events – the standing long jump and speed bounce which involved the children jumping over a foam hurdle on a mat without stopping for 20 seconds; this required a lot of coordiantion!

All of the children particpated very well, with some of the boys and girls being awared 2nd and 3rd place for their distances in the throwing and jumping events. Overall, BWJS came 4th out of 6 schools. It was a brilliant morning of competitive sport, with lots of support and encouragment shown by all of the children – well done.

Many thanks to the parents and grandparents who gave help with transport and who came to support the team.
