Thursday 24th May 2012 – The Worldclass Fayre

Filed under: Worldclass @ 4:53 pm

As you all know, we have an annual fayre to raise money to sponsor four Gambian children.  The sponsorship pays for their education for one year and it is something we as a school are very proud of.  We have now completed our 5th Worldclass Fayre and it has been truly amazing.

I will give a breakdown of the figures at the end of my report together with a final result.  We held the fayre over three days at break times and after school.  Fifty-five children took part and we had 16 tables, where the children were selling cakes, books, toys, guess the name of the teddy, guess how many sweets in the jar, treasure map and so much more.  The children were totally committed and their enthusiasm and organisational skills were incredible.

We had the perfect weather for the fayre and the third day in particular was like sampling the Gambian weather, so we took all the stalls onto the grass and had some shelter under the trees to try to prevent the cakes melting!

Thank you so much for all the support and help from Mrs Warner, Mr Fickling Mrs Hoff, Mrs Webster and Mrs Tidman who kindly gave us their time to help with many various jobs that needed doing over the three days. Thank you also to Mrs Barclay for helping me to put things away at the end of each day and to Mrs Macdonald for painting us a huge Worldclass Fayre sign and various other signs. Your help was very much appreciated.

Here are the results:-

Monday break time – £97.01
Monday after school – £112.24
Tuesday break time – £125.20
Tuesday after school – £104.01
Wednesday break time – £111.69
Wednesday after school – £79.41
Plus donations – £5.00

This gave us an overall total of £634.56.

The sponsorship money will be sent to PAGEANT for them to transfer to Gambia.  The remainder of the money will buy some things to send to our two link schools and I will be asking our Worldclass members for suggestions very soon. Please check out the PAGEANT. website and read about all the good work they do to support children in Gambia – Projects Aiding Gambian Education and Natural Talent.

I am absolutely thrilled with this result and so very proud of all fifty-five children for their outstanding achievement.  A personal thank you to all of the children because without their hard work and effort these four Gambian children would not have an education.

My final thank you must go to all the parents/guardians for their tremendous support in allowing their children to come and buy from the Fayre.

It has been an outstanding fayre by fifty-five outstanding children who attend an outstanding school.  Well done and thank you.

  1. Well done Worldclass, that is a truly fantastic amount of money to have raised over such a short time! I know how proud Mrs Mars is of all of you and also how proud the schools in The Gambia are of you too. The money you raise genuinely makes a difference to the children there.
A special well done must go to Mrs Mars for all her hard work, I know how much time and effort she has put into the fayre; before, during and after it. I know she has been counting money till late at night.
    Well done all of you!

  3. Dear Mrs Mars and Worldclass,

Thank you so very much for welcoming me into your wonderful 5th fayre, it was inspiring to see you all working with such dedication and flair to achieve your goal.

I have seen many budding business men and women amongst your group and you have proved that by working together with creativity and passion you can make extraordinary things happen.

A special thank you to Mrs Mars for the opportunity she has given us all to make a difference where it is needed, and for booking the sunshine!

Thank you again for a truly fun event, it was unforgettable.

    Yours sincerely,

    Mrs Warner

  5. I have only just seen your blog, so I am very late in saying a very big THANKK-YOU to you all for your amazing support to these Gambian children. I will be going to see them during my next Gambian trip and I will take a copy of Mrs Mars’ blog entry to show them how you have worked so hard to help them. If it was not for you, they would not be going to school at all, so you are giving them something that will help them all their lives. Well done indeed!
Love and best wishes to you all from us at PAGEANT,
