Friday 7th October 2011 – Printing Our Own Hieroglyphs in Year Four

We are really enjoying studying our topic about Ancient Egypt and have looked in more detail at the symbols and pictures Ancient Egyptians used to communicate with each other – known as hieroglyphs.  We have learnt that there were over 700 symbols in the Egyptian alphabet and that it took a scribe 5 years to learn all of these to be able to write properly.

Having looked closely at a selection of hieroglyphs, we designed our own and carved it into a printing tile.  Then using two ink based colours, we printed our hieroglyph onto paper.  Below is a selection of our work!
