Wednesday 4th May 2011 – Year Five Rainforest Work
Before heading off to the Isle of Wight and visiting Amazon World, Year Five have been learning about Rainforests – their locations, their climate, and now the lifestyles of those who live in them.
Yesterday, we spent our afternoon looking at the lives of the Yanomami people who live on the borders of Brazil and Venezuela. The Yanomami live in buildings called Yanos that are built from materials they find in the forest around them. These dwellings can house up to 400 people.
We had a go at making our own Yano models. It was harder than we thought, even on a very small scale with very easy materials – it showed us what an incredible achievement it must be to build a real one!
