Friday 11th February 2011 – Maple Class Enjoy an Afternoon of Sport!

This afternoon, Maple class enjoyed participating in a range of different physical activities, which were set up and run by a group of Swanmore College Sports leaders.  Maple class had been selected to take part in the ‘Personal Best’ programme, an initiative set up and run by Winchester City Council, with the aim of promoting the 7 Olympic and Paralympic Values as we head towards London 2012.

The children were split into teams of 6 and took part in 5 different activities – speed bounce, chest push, standing long jump, shuttle run and finally the target throw.  The leaders explained what they needed to do at each activity and then recorded their best efforts onto a score sheet.  These scores will then be collated and sent off to Winchester City Council, along with a number of other schools in the area.  In the summer term, the leaders will come back again and the children will do the same activities and try and better their original scores, thus setting a ‘Personal Best’.

Today, Maple class received a certificate of ‘Determination’ which is one of the Olympic and Paralympic values and this has been displayed in our classroom.

We had a great afternoon and we thank the Sports leaders from Swanmore College for taking the time to work with us.
